Downtown Sarasota

An iconic structure offering some of the most breathtaking views.

Welcome to Downtown Sarasota

Take in the sparkling bay beneath and glistening views of the downtown skyline.

The John Ringling Causeway, which connects the barrier island of Lido Key to the mainland of Sarasota, is an iconic structure offering some of the most breathtaking views. Take in the sparkling bay beneath and glistening views of the downtown skyline. Inhale the sea air and make a note to return to Hart’s Landing, the oldest fishing bait and tackle store.

When you reach downtown, stop for a bite to eat. What do you prefer? Japanese, Peruvian, Mexican? There are eateries and bars for every price point and nationality, many of which are Zagat rated. With new construction everywhere, including an influx of ultra-luxury condos, you can expect shops and restaurants to up their game. Big time.

After a hearty meal with friends, stroll through the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Glimpse the beauty of more than 6,000 rare orchids.

Then laugh all night at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre or, perhaps, get your fill of arts in culture taking a tour of The Ringling Museum, watching the Sarasota Ballet, or listening to the stars at the acclaimed Sarasota Opera House. A cultural and civic hub, Downtown Sarasota. boasts several theaters as well as the Towles Court Artist Colony. Here you can watch local artisans perfect their skills and then if you wish, purchase their creations to wear or hang on your walls.

Don’t be surprised if you come upon one of the many celebrities who call Sarasota home. Rock star Brian Johnson, the frontman for ACDC, lives just a few miles away on Bird Key and frequents downtown.

While there is plenty for adults to relish in Downtown Sarasota, there is equal fun to be had by the youngest Sarasota visitors. Visit the circus-themed playground at Payne Park or search for seashells at some of the world’s best beaches. The white-sugar sand is just a quick drive away. The little ones might also love to take art classes at the Sarasota Children’s Garden, where kids are encouraged to explore, imagine, play in the dirt and create.

If you’re looking to live in an up-and-coming walkable neighborhood with nightlife, arts, parks, and shopping, Downtown Sarasota is the place to be!
